Brave New World

A stealth puzzle game prototype.

What is Brave New World?

Brave New World is a stealth puzzle game prototype.

Its puzzles are all based on the notion of causality as defined by the relationship between a cause and its effect. The player can alter the causality of the events occuring in the level by freezing time and rewinding NPCs.

Story

The player is sent back in time to November 22, 1963 to prevent the assassination of U.S. President John F. Kennedy.

If the player fails in their mission, this tragic 20th century event will trigger a chain of events that will ultimately culminate into the collapse of civilization in the 21st century.

Unique selling points

Observe

Carefully monitor civilians or enemies to learn their actions in order to bypass them.

Freeze and rewind

Use the power of time manipulation to alter event flows and eliminate the numerous conspirators that are after the President’s life.

Hide in the shadows

The player is obliged to stay in the shadows to avoid causing irremediable time paradoxes.

Recognizable landmarks

The level is based on Dealey Plaza (Dallas, Texas), the location of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963.

It features most of the famous buildings of the area such as the Dal-Tex Building, the Dallas County Courthouse, and the Texas School Book Depository.

Exterior vs. interior

The main challenge with this level in terms of level design was combining both real-life settings and an original level design that would optimally use the game mechanics already established.

We decided to make the exterior environment of the level correspond both in appearance and proportion to the real-life Dealey Plaza, and design the interior layout of these buildings independently.

Most of the action of the game takes place inside and on the roofs of the buildings.
