My tasks

Combat rooms

The combat rooms in this level are all different in layout but they feature common components.

A combat room has safe zones and varied covers for both the player and the enemies to hide and to do long-range attacks from. A “no man’s land” is located in between the two camps for assaults and close-range attacks.

Destructible objects and alternate paths allow the player to elaborate various tactics to get rid of the enemies.

Pacing

This level follows traditional pacing. The tension builds up throughout the level and reaches its peak at the very end with an arena battle where the player must defend his spaceship (and only way out) from destruction.

Smart backtracking

Space in this level is used in an optimal manner. Once the player reaches the main objective, he is instructed to escape back to his spaceship located at the beginning of the level.

While backtracking is often frowned upon by players as a way to extend playtime without really adding game content, there is multiple ways to make it a truly fun and engaging experience.

In this level, the player uses elevated platforms, discovers side paths, acquires new weapons and fights enemies on his way back. The backtracking keeps the pace of the game going and gives the player a brand new outlook on the level.
