I was hired as a full-time in-house contractor by NumériQ, a division of Quebecor, to help their AR/VR team with my skills and expertise in game design, gamification, motion design, and virtual reality.

NumériQ specializes in the creation and marketing of cross-platform content and serves all of Quebecor’s subsidiaries as well as many external clients.

My tasks

Augmented reality

In collaboration with iLLOGIKA Studios, Le Journal de Montréal’s mobile app (J5) was upgraded to support augmented reality (AR). Using the J5 3D feature of the app, readers were able to scan a page of their newspaper to see an interactive 3D animation appear.

The AR projects produced under the J5 3D umbrella were often branded content, mixing science communication and advertising. Many companies saw the potential of AR as a way of raising brand awareness and incorporated J5 3D into their marketing strategies.

Game jam-like

Following the high pressure, fast-paced environment of the newspaper newsroom, the AR/VR team had to complete projects within very short time frames (often within 5 days).

As part of the AR/VR team, I had the opportunity to work on several of the J5 3D augmented reality projects. My tasks varied depending on the needs of the projects, ranging from UI/UX design to 3D modeling.

3D modeling & explainer videos

The “En 5 minutes” page of Le Journal de Montréal demystifies often complex scientific subjects in an easy-to-understand way through illustrations and graphics.

Using my skills in 3D modeling and composition, I was able to produce several pages for En 5 minutes and have my work displayed to Le Journal’s wide readership. Most notably, my page describing the ancient process of mummification was shared on social media by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

I was also tasked with adapting many En 5 minutes pages to video form using the Wochit video creation platform. These explainer videos were then uploaded on Le Journal de Montréal’s website and shared on social media.

Virtual reality

COLAB STUDIO, a division of Quebecor, challenged our team to create an immersive virtual reality experience for its client, the SAQ.

Following the style guidelines of the SAQ brand, I handled all the motion design work in the video.

Wearing Oculus VR headsets, users were able to visit a Montreal gin distillery and learn more about the gin making process.

Concept video

At the 2019 C2 Montreal conference, a multidisciplinary team of employees of Videotron and Quebecor came together to imagine three concepts of futuristic exhibition stands.

Using pre-existing 3D models and concept art images, I created this motion design video and brought these concepts to life.
